Giving the DJ Setup a Place of Its Own
The lights drop, the first record lands, ice hits glass, and the room changes.
Our client wanted that feeling at home. A DJ unit, in their apartment, ready whenever the night called for it.
But everything they found looked like it belonged in a club: bulky, boxy, built for a stage. Nothing had the swagger of a booth and the grace of a home.
So the brief was clear. Music. Records. Drinks. And people, close enough to feel the groove.
The Thinking
A DJ setup demands precision. A bar demands resilience. A home demands style that never shouts.
We wanted all three in one piece, with the energy of a booth and the polish of fine furniture.
So we put the catalogues away and started sketching. Then we tore it up and started again. We rethought everything until the piece stopped looking like gear and started looking like a statement.
The Material Story
We began with terrazzo, top to bottom. Bold, tactile, and unbothered by a spilled drink.
But in full, it was too heavy. The piece needed to move with the room, not weigh it down.
And the music needed precision. DJ equipment calls for exact cutouts, and stone doesn’t bend to that kind of detail.
So we split the roles.
Terrazzo took the bar side, where the pour happens, glasses clink, and the night gets its momentum.
Walnut veneer took the DJ side, deep, warm and cut to hold every piece of equipment with clean, deliberate lines.
Inside the Piece
The best details reveal themselves after dark.
Records are stored within reach, so the next track is always an arm’s length away. Bottles sit behind secure cabinets, ready when you are. And layered wood detailing, lit from behind, throws a low glow across the unit, the kind of light that makes a room feel like it’s about to come alive.
The Result
After many sketches and many iterations, we built a DJ unit that works like a bar and belongs in a home.
By day, it’s sculpted wood and stone, quietly beautiful. By night, the music drops, the backlight warms, and the whole room turns toward it.
